How to Convert Image Formats

Which Format Should I Choose?
JPG is best for photos and complex images. Files are smaller than PNG, but JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white on conversion.
PNG is ideal for graphics, screenshots, and images with transparent backgrounds. Compression is lossless, so no quality is lost.
WebP is a modern format that is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG or PNG at equivalent quality. Supported in all current browsers.
BMP is an uncompressed bitmap format. Files are very large. Use only when required by legacy software that does not accept other formats.
What Happens to Transparency?
PNG and WebP support transparency. When you convert a transparent image to JPG or BMP, the transparent areas are filled with white, because those formats do not support an alpha channel. To preserve transparency, keep the output format set to PNG or WebP.
